Engraving by Tamash Makouski "Civitatis GRODNAE Vera delenatio ere[cta] facta Anno 1600". The copy was made by Zmicer Shapavalau.
In the early 1600s, Tamash Makouski made a series of engravings with views of the cities of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Only two surviving engravings are views of Kouna and Birzhy, they are exhibited in the Lithuanian National Art Museum. Images of Vilnia, Hrodna, Nesvizh, Trakai, Kletsk are known for photocopies and book editions of the first half of the twentieth century.
It seems that these city panoramas and images (in a reduced form) decorated the wall map of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, prepared in Nesvizh around 1603.
"Civitatis GRODNAE Vera delenatio ere[cta] facta Anno 1600" the only engraving from this series is dated. The engraving shows the royal castle, the Vytaut's Fara, the town hall and the city magistrate, the Bernardine church. In the foreground is the Nioman River.
The copy is made on a copper plate and perfectly conveys the graphic style of Tamash Makouski. Circulation is printed by hand on an etching press. The plate was placed in the exposition in Hrodna Castle.
